FAQ’s on Laser Hair Removal

Hair removal is the most FREQUENTLY performed light-based cosmetic procedure in the U.S. and Canada, approaching 2 million procedures annually.

How does it work?

We use a sophisticated light energy source for permanent hair reduction. The light is absorbed by the pigment in your hair, which effectively disables the hair follicle.

What areas can be treated?

With our CoolGlide system we can clear hair on everything from upper lips to full backs and legs, all the while being in half the time of traditional systems.

How is our treatment different from other clinics?

Our CoolGlide technology is considered the gold standard in the laser industry because of its long history of safety and effectiveness on all skin types – even on tanned skin, which is a nice benefit to our patients in the summer months. We can treat not only coarse hair but fine hair as well. It is permanent, safe and effective.

How many treatments will you need?

Hair develops in phases and we can only treat hair in its active, visible stage. Therefore, the number of treatments depends on how quickly the untreated hairs appear. For significant clearance, most patients require a course of 4 – 6 treatments, which are spaced at least 6 -8 weeks apart.

Is it totally permanent?

Yes. The hair we treat with CoolGlide will not grow back, and patients can expect 85 % reduction in hair after 4 – 6 treatments. As we age our hair patterns change, so this does not prevent that possibility of new hair growth over the years.

How does it differ from electrolysis?

Electrolysis involves inserting a needle into individual hair follicles and delivering an electrical charge to them at one time. Therefore, it can be costly, painful and time-consuming to do any more than a small area. Our technology, on the other hand, delivers light energy to hundreds of follicles at a time, which makes it ideal for treating large as well as small areas.

How long does the treatment take?

It depends, of course, on the size of the area, but it typically takes 60 minutes to treat the upper and lower legs and 45 minutes for a man’s back.

What does it feel like?

Patients will feel a series of short snaps, somewhat like a rubber band snapping, but no local anesthesia or pain medication is necessary. Our advanced engineering system both heats the hair follicle and cools the skin around it making the treatment tolerable.

Do I need to grow the hair out before my treatment?

No. In fact, we ask that you shave beforehand since the treatment is targeting the hair follicle itself – not just the hair.

Is it safe?

The beauty of our CoolGlide technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterward, but that typically goes away in a matter of minutes to hours. As with all medical procedures there is a slight degree of risk, and we will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your FREE consultation.

How much does it cost?

This depends totally on the size of the area and the number of treatments we estimate are needed to achieve clearance. If you would like to make an appointment for a consultation, we can give you a specific idea as to the number of treatments and the price then. We do offer various payment plans and with all of our packages the first treatment is $39.00.

Can anyone have it done?

No laser or light-based system can treat blonde, white, red or gray hair since there is no melanin in it to absorb the light, but with our CoolGlide system people with any other color hair, any skin type, and even tanned skin can receive treatment.

So if what you want is a hair-free summer, March is a great time to start.

FAQ’s on Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common skin disorder which often begins as redness appearing on the face. At first the redness may come and go, but over time, it can become more persistent, and visible blood vessels and tiny pimples may appear. Rosacea is progressive, meaning if symptoms are not treated, and triggers not managed, they may worsen over time.

Laser treatments such as Laser Genesis and Limelight can reduce redness and decrease the appearance of blood vessels.

What areas can be treated?

Rosacea generally appears on our cheek, nose, chin and forehead. The redness may gradually appear on the ears, chest, back and eyes.

What does the treatment feel like?

Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure.

How does it work?

By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, laser treatments generate heat in the dilated capillaries to reduce redness.

How many treatments will you need?

Rosacea is a chronic (long-term) condition, and while there is no cure, its symptoms can be reduced in four to six treatments on average.

How long does the treatment take?

The length of time depends on the size of the treatment area but each treatment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes.

How much does it cost?

This depends on the extent of what you would like to have treated. If you’d like to make an appointment for a consultation, we can give you a specific idea as to the number of treatments and the price. Payment options and gift certificates are available and the consultation, as always, is free.

What are the side effects?

Most patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and slight swelling. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours.

What causes Rosacea?

No one knows the exact cause of rosacea, but it is possible to identify “triggers” which can cause symptoms to flare- up. Triggers can include weather, food and drink, intense exercise, stress, drugs and some underlying medical condition.

Who gets rosacea?

It is estimated that 1.6 million Canadians have rosacea, making it a very common skin disorder. There are several factors that may increase your chances of developing rosacea.

  • Age: Rosacea generally occurs between the ages of 30 and 50, although it can sometimes be seen in children.
  • Rosacea often develops in fair-skinned people of Irish, Scottish, English, or of Eastern or Northern European descent.
  • Women are more likely to get rosacea then men; however, men tend to experience more severe symptoms.
  • A family history of rosacea

While rosacea cannot be currently cured, with laser treatment, its signs and symptoms can be managed.
